The Best Pub Hotels in England

The pub is a huge part of British culture, so why not take it one step further and sleep in one rather than just drink in it? There are beautiful pub hotels dotted all around England and here are my top five favourites!

The Roebuck Inn, Mobberley, Cheshire

Located in the Cheshire town of Mobberley, the Roebuck Inn dates back to 1708 and was reopened in 2016 after a long period of closure. The pub was carefully restored over 18 months to create a ‘petit hotel and bistro’ feel whilst nurturing the British coaching inn vibe.

The six guestrooms are individually decorated in a rustic style with quirky furnishings in a bold palette, 4 of the en suite bathrooms boast beautiful roll-top baths. The European inspired menu may not be for those who want the classic pub grub, but for those wanting something more refined and in match with the seasons.

Guests are welcome to use the facilities of the nearby Cheshire Health Club & Spa for just £6 and the owners have put together an abundance of activities including local jogging and walking routes in the surrounding countryside. The staff offer a warm and friendly welcome,  creating a happy client base alongside a well-rated workforce.

The Wild Rabbit, Cotswolds

Located in the heart of the British countryside, the Wild Rabbit is one of the most well-regarded pubs in the Cotswolds. Each of the rooms are named after different country animals and offer a contemporary take on a classic English design. Unlike a lot of pubs, the Hedgehog room welcomes families of 4, providing a master bedroom leading into a room for two young children.

My favourite room is the Rabbit, their largest luxury double. Situated under the 18th-century rooms. The beautiful handmade 4 poster bed sits in the bedroom, through an archway separating the main living area. Room amenities include Bamford Bath & Body products, mini bar, complimentary Nespresso coffee, tea and homemade biscuits, Volga Linen dressing gowns and bed linen and smart, flat-screen televisions.

Rose & Crown, Romaldkirk, County Durham

What better place to stay than one which features a ‘Dog Hall of Fame’ on their website? The UK is probably one of (perhaps THE) most dog-friendly nations in the world and being a dog mama myself, I absolutely love anywhere that celebrates our furry companions.

The Rose and Crown is tucked away in northern England, surrounded by miles and miles of some of God’s best countryside and easy to reach thanks to its proximity to the A1. Guests can expect a very warm welcome at this 18th-century country inn and an escape that makes them feel miles away from the rest of the world.

Put on your wellies and raincoat (hopefully just a precaution!) and hike for miles across the Yorkshire Dales, making an evening cosying up with a delicious meal by the crackling fire even more of a reward.

The 14 rooms offer a simple touch of luxury, offering a selection of suites, doubles and twin bedrooms in different parts of the property. Guests can expect to find Molton Brown bath products, complimentary bottled mineral water, tea and coffee, and a Bose music system. Book lovers will absolutely love Room 10, a charming superior double room with a large bookshelf and cosy window seat to curl up on and get lost in a fairytale.

The Punchbowl Inn, Lake District

Nestled within the hills above the Lake District’s most well-known lake, Windermere, the Punchbowl Inn offers a cosy and relaxed home from home with a roaring fire that will keep even the coldest of toes warm in the winter.

All the original features of the pub were beautifully restored in 2005 by Richard Rose, including original flagstone floors, fireplaces and the ancient oak beams. The pub is home to 9 individual, boutique guestrooms that offer wonderful views, comfortable beds, flat-screen TVs, roll-top baths and separate power showers.

Offering the best of both worlds, the Punchbowl Inn is tucked away from the tourist route whilst being only 15 minutes from some of the areas best attractions. It’s not just the rooms that are popular here, the food is also sought after and the ground floor is a maze of dining rooms, relaxed eating areas and a bar, all connected by a series of small steps.

Old Hall Inn, Peak District

The Old Hall Inn is a traditional country alehouse offering superb food and drink alongside large, traditional rooms. The property offers great walks right from its doorstep and is just 20 minutes from Lyme Park, Buxton and Castleton. The building has been well looked after and has had just enough modern touches for a comfortable 21st-century stay, whilst still successfully making you feel as though you are taking a step back in time.

The pub is in fact located within an old Elizabethan Manor, home to the impressive Minstrel’s Gallery and the Whitehough Hall and you can make your way through attractive pub gardens to the Paper Mill, a second building of guestrooms that are a little more modern.

The rooms with the most character are located within Whitehough Hall, displaying four-poster beds, stone-mullioned windows and window seats. The pub serves the big classics of pub food, ale pies, beer-battered haddock and gammon steak, all locally sourced of course!

Prices start at £114 per night.
