I’m sure you have seen all the pretty photos and videos of a seaplane flying over the sprinkling of coral islands in the Maldives, but there are plenty of people who would rather just see that view from a photo. The seaplanes that take you to your island are small, Twin Otters to be precise, they’re not for everyone.
Inspired by my sister’s bad experience with her claustrophobia on a seaplane, I thought I would comprise a list of different islands in the Maldives you can reach by speedboat.
Anantara Dhigu Island Resort
A beautiful typical Maldivian resort with an array of restaurant options and an incredible overwater spa, Anantara Dhigu Island Resort is just a 30 minute speedboat transfer from Male International Airport.
Surrounded by soft white sand, the fact you can reach Dhigu Island by speedboat is just one perk amongst many. Wake up to the sound of the Indian Ocean from your overwater villa before taking a glass kayak ride to snorkel island… yes, a whole private island dedicated to spotting tropical fish!
Kuramathi Island Resort
Kuramathi Resort is one of the larger islands for tourists and is perfect for guests who are worried they might get a bit bored in the Maldives.
Kuramathi Island offers no less than nine a la carte restaurants alongside 3 buffet options, it also has eleven villa options, a beautiful spa, kids club, a house reef, an aqua sports centre, tennis court, and three swimming pools!
Kuramathi is unique in that it has the option of both a speedboat transfer option from Male Airport as well as a seaplane.
Coco Bodu Hithi
It’s always great when luxury is easily accessible isn’t it? If you are looking for a beautiful 5 star resort in the Maldives with a speedboat transfer, you can’t go wrong here.
Guests feel like they are world’s away from real life as soon as they step on the boat from Male and arrive on the palm-fringed beaches of Coco Bodu Hithi. The island offers a chic retreat with its own house reef, giving guests the chance to reconnect with themselves and immerse in incredible nature.
Four Seasons Kuda Huraa
The Four Seasons has not one, but two islands in the Maldives. However, it is the Four Seasons Kuda Huraa that is accessible by boat.
Serene island living blends seamlessly with Maldivian village charm, bringing guests closer to the impeccable nature of the Indian Ocean whilst offering one of the most luxurious island experiences you could imagine.
Looking for something a little more unique in the Maldives? Kuda Huraa offers an incredible night spa experience situated on a stunning roof top terrace, surrounded by palm trees and bringing you even closer to the magical night sky that sits above you.
Simple and Maldivian, Meeru Island lets its natural beauty do all the talking. Meeru is 48km from Male, offering a simple 5 minute speedboat transfer from the airport.
Meeru has been around for 40 years, making it one of the most established holiday islands in the country. Guests are offered the chance to unwind and relax in one of 6 rustic-chic room types. Sandy floors and open sided restaurants give a barefoot experience. The house reef if popular with experienced divers and snorklers, and a 9-hole golf course will certainly keep the golf enthusiasts happy!
Ozen Life Maadhoo
The first Ozen Resort and a favourite amongst the 5* resorts in the Maldives, Ozen Life is an elegant oasis set amongst crystal clear turquoise waters. 94 charming villas and one exclusive residence are dotted around the island offering a private escape for all, the villas are nestled amongst the tropical gardens, on the beachfront, or over the water.
Ozen Life is set to open a chic beach club with the opportunity to indulge in spectacular food and drink whilst laying back on your sun lounger. Families and couples alike can enjoy the chilled surroundings that will feature signature cocktails and Mediterranean cuisine, something a little different for your island escape.
Taj Exotica Resort & Spa
One of the closest resort islands to Male, the Taj Exotica perfectly blends luxury with convenience. The Taj Exotica is elegantly set over one of the largest lagoons in the country and is home to 64 villas which have been designed to camouflage into the island’s incredible flora and fauna.
Guests are assigned world-renowned butlers who are happy to help you with your every need and request so you can focus on your relaxation. The dining is impeccable thanks to poolside nibbles, indulgent cocktails, and beachfront dining at the 24 Degrees restaurant.
