Best Luggage Storage Services When Travelling

Looking for a luggage storage service on your next European adventure?

We’ve all been there, you arrive in a brandmnew city but you still have five hours before you can check into your hotel. However, I refuse to waste the day! I booked an early flight for a reason…

Instead of trekking all the way over to your hotel and crossing your fingers that you can check in early or drop off your luggage, did you know there are plenty of luggage storage solutions dotted all around European cities?

I recently embarked on an epic train journey through France and Italy, on our last day we travelled from Verona to Venice where we spent the day. However, we were flying home from Venice late that night, so had no hotel to look after our bags!

It was after a lot of Googling that I realised there were many places in Venice that would store my luggage for a tiny fee. I ended up using Bounce, a luggage storage app that was cheap and so easy to use. However, Bounce isn’t the only option and now I have had the time to sit and do my research, I am here to tell you all about about the different luggage storage apps that are available in all major European cities.

Bounce

I might as well start with luggage storage app Bounce, seeing as it was the first one I ever used.

Dragging a suitcase around Venice is not for the faint hearted, there is a reason there are people standing at major bridges with the offer of carrying your suitcase up and over for an eye watering fee of €20. That’s €15 more expensive than what it cost me to store my bag for an entire day.

Bounce luggage storage offers over 10,000 locations to store your baggage around the world. Starting from just £3.20 per day. This is significantly less than storing baggage at train stations and airports.

All you need to do is download the app, pick your location and pay in advance online. You must show your confirmation when checking your bag in, and then staff at the establishment will look after it from there on.

Bounce uses all kinds of storage venues from cafes to hotels, corner shops to private accommodation. Cancellation is free, there is 24/7 customer service, and your bag is insured for up to $10,000.

Bounce operates in 48 European cities (as of 2024, including luggage storage in London, Rome, Amsterdam and so many more.

Stasher

Stasher is one of the most popular luggage storage services, having over 600 locations worldwide.

Stasher works similarly to Bounce regarding ease of searching and booking luggage locations in European destinations. It also offers free cancellation and 24/7 customer service. You will need a photo ID with you to drop off and pick up your luggage.

Each 'stashpoint' offers a safe space for your luggage, with regular check-ups and vetting by Stasher itself. Bags are kept in secure rooms, and Stasher will guarantee up to £1,000 (included in the initial cost) if anything gets lost, damaged, or stolen.

Stasher offers multiple storage spaces across major cities. For example, if you are looking for luggage storage in London, there are over 300 locations alone.

One of Stasher's unique services is the ability to ship your luggage across the world. This is perfect if you can't take it with you for whatever reason or if you are relocating. You can expect text updates on the movements of your luggage as well as online tracking, the luggage is picked up straight from your door!

Luggage Hero

Luggage Hero is one of the most popular luggage storage apps across Europe. However, before I start, I will say that the customer reviews are not as high as those of Bounce and Stasher.

Luggage Hero protects up to $500 per item for free, with no size or weight limitations. For a small fee, you can pay for extra insurance to ensure your bag for up to €2500 ($3000). Like Stasher and Bounce, the luggage storage sites are within existing businesses such as shops, hotels, cafes, and more. All are vetted by LuggageHero’s local employee, who performs regular quality checks.

Luggage Hero is super easy to use, they have an app but you can also book directly on their website.

Bookings can be cancelled free of charge until midnight the night before. After this, cancellation costs $5/£5/€5.

Alongside Bounce, Nannybag offers some of the best luggage insurance in the business. Your luggage is protected for up to €10000 in case of breakage, loss or theft.

All pieces of luggage cost the same. You can store backpacks, duffel bags, suitcases, you name it, even strollers. You just need to make sure your item weighs under 30kg.

You cannot book and pay on the spot, all reservations must be booked and paid for in advance via their website or app. If you want to cancel, you can do this free of charge up until the time you have booked to drop the bag off; if you cancel after this time, you will not be eligible for a refund.

Head to the Vertoe app or website and type in your location to choose a luggage storage space near you. You must book online rather than in person; otherwise, you are not eligible for insurance coverage.
