Hideout Koh Kood: Is This the Best Hotel in Koh Kood?

Is Hideout Koh Kood the best hotel in Koh Kood?

I have been to Koh Kood twice now and stayed at 5 different hotels and resorts. It's an interesting island, it remains largely undeveloped and mass tourism hasn't reached its shores. Other than the ultra luxurious Soneva Kiri in the north of the island, the rest of Koh Kood remains pretty humble.

However, things have changed in the last couple of years, with a few new boutique hotels popping up across the island and Hideout Koh Kood is just one of them.

December 2025 update:

At the time of writing, some governments have issued precautionary travel advisories for parts of eastern Thailand due to border tensions with Cambodia. Is Koh Kood safe? The islands of Koh Kood, Koh Chang and Koh Mak remain calm and unaffected on the ground, but travellers should check their local government guidance and travel insurance before departure.

Where is Hideout Koh Kood?

Tucked away in the south west corner of Koh Kood, Hideout is just 5 minutes walk from the beautiful Klonghin Beach.

The hotel is located right on the sea front, with a beautiful ocean view framed by fluffy palm trees.

The hotel itself doesn't have a large beach, much of Koh Kood is tidal too so there are times it has a beach and times it doesn't. But fear not, as I mentioned, Klonghin Beach is a few minutes walk, but there is also a totally deserted beach guests can reach by kayak just 5 minutes away and visable from the hotel itself.

In terms of restaurants and amenities, the hotel is pretty isolated and appeals to those wanting to escape. Koh Kood is a large island but traffic is very minimal so it doesn't take far to get anywhere. The majority of guests hire scooters to get around so if they want to go eat out in the evenings, they can do so easily.

That being said, the hotel does offer its own brilliant restaurant and there is a basic beach bar & cafe on Klonghin Beach.

How to get to Hideout Koh Kood

I have a full guide on how to get to Koh Kood which you can read here. But to put it in basic terms, you need to get to Trat province, whether that be by bus/taxi/minivan from Bangkok, or flying into Trat Airport from Bangkok.

Once you have arrived into Trat or the airport, you take a transfer to Laem Sok Pier where you can board a ferry, catamaran or speedboat which will take you directly to Koh Kood. Most of the boat companies offer the full transfer from Bangkok or Trat Airport, you can search and book these through 12Go Asia here.

If you book through a reputable boat company (I recommend Boonsiri), you will be picked up at Ao Salad Pier in Koh Kood, and taken to your accommodation in a songthaew, this is a converted pick up truck with open sides that acts as a taxi (there is a member of staff at the pier with a clip board, go to her, she will ask your hotel and then tell you the number of the vehicle you need to head to).

The journey from the pier to Hideout is around 30 minutes, however there will be other pick ups along the way so it can take around 40 minutes.

First impressions

The journey to Hideout Koh Kood can be a little bumpy so I ended up feeling sick when I arrived. The last 5 minutes of the journey is off road, going through a beautiful coconut tree plantation.

Reception is up a number of stairs, and I am quite angry at myself for not thinking about this the first time I visited, but it's not ideal for any visitors with mobility issues.

I was only two days past a scooter accident and was struggling to walk, I then had to climb up a flight of wooden stairs to reception which didn't seem very accessible.

The ladies at reception were lovely and brought me a delicious passionfruit drink, it was soo good, and well needed after climbing the stairs!

Once checked in, staff connect with you on Whatsapp, you can then contact them throughout your stay with whatever you need, without having to return to reception every time.

Wooden cabanas with daybeds offer shaded relaxation spots, while an open-air dining area is visible to the side, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings

The grounds at Hideout Koh Kood

As mentioned, the location of Hideout is lovely! The grounds are well landscaped with a seafront filled with palm trees.

From reception you take a walkway past reception and enter the main pool area, the pool is a great size and sits between the restaurant and the seafront - a great view for swimming! The pool also never gets busy, most people are out exploring during the day, enjoying the chairs on the seafront, or spending time in their private pool.

In front of the pool is a small decking area that is an extension to the main restaurant, it's in a lovely position overlooking the sea and the beach area. The main restaurant sits behind the pool overlooking everything.

On the seafront you have a number of beach chairs and umbrellas you can relax under, as well as a wooden swing. Further along the coast in front of the villas there is another wooden deck area with sun loungers.

The landscaping is beautiful, with long green grass and ample palm trees to make it known you are in a tropical paradise. The villas themselves are individual, single storey villas that blend in beautifully with the surroundings.

The pool villas at Hideout

Hideout Koh Kood is most well known for its stunning pool villas, and I mean stunning!

There are three types of pool villas at Hideout:

  • Deluxe Pool Villas, these are on the back row.
  • Sea View Pool Villas, these are in the middle rows of pool villas, offering partial sea views.
  • Beachfront Pool Villas, a private pool villa on the seafront with unobstructed views.
  • The Deluxe Pool Villas are slight smaller, but still extremely spacious, where as the Sea View and the Beachfront Pool Villas are the same size and layout.

The Sea View and Beachfront Pool Villas offer beautifully rounded free-standing bath tubs where as the Deluxe Villa has a large rainfall shower.

The bedrooms in each villa are the same and designed in an airy Boho style. Each comes with a dressing area, sitting area, outdoor relaxation area and a gorgeous round pool.

The villa features a thatched roof, curved bamboo fencing, and a private circular plunge pool with crystal-clear water. A shaded outdoor seating area and a cozy sunbed add to the villa’s serene ambiance. The surrounding villas and distant jungle-covered hills create a secluded, nature-filled retreat

The main villas

When the resort was first constructed, there were no pool villas. The resort is still dominated by a number of pretty, individual Boho style villas that face the sea - these are located on the opposite side of the resort.

There are four types of villa:

  • Beachfront villa
  • Sea View Villa
  • Superior Villa
  • Twin Villa

I recommend the Beachfront Villa or Sea View Villa so you can wake up to a beautiful view!

Each villa has a small decking area out front with relaxation chairs and a stand to dry your clothes if needed. They are all the same, a little small if you have big suticases but they're comfy and beautifully designed!

Dining at Hideout

Hideout offers two restaurant areas, one larger restaurant at the back of the resort offering sweeping views over the pool. This is where breakfast is held.

Breakfast is a buffet with a choice of cereals, pastries and some hot food. There are a number of juices and hot drinks available too, it wasn't the biggest selection of breakfast items I've seen in a hotel but the property is small and the food is good quality. There are Thai breakfast options as well as international choices like cereal and croissants.

You can also have lunch of dinner in the main area, of you can choose to eat down byt the sea front. This dining area is much more intimate, located on a raised wooden decking if you are looking for a more romantic meal!

I was really impressed overall with the lunch & dinner choices, quality and price. I had both lunch and dinner and when I checked out of the hotel, it was only £10! Again, there are lots of Thai options and plenty of international options too.

There is a beautiful bar at one end of the pool serving delicious cocktails, juices, coconuts and general soft drinks and juices/

Conclusion: Is Hideout Koh Kood worth it, and what's the cost?

Yes, it is worth it! There is a lovely relaxed vibe at the resort, the grounds are well landscaped, free kayaking is available, and the villas are beautifully designed.

Staff are friendly and helpful, the addition of having Whatsapp to contact them is great!

Are there any downsides? Yes, the beach directly infront of the resort is lacking. It is tidal so sometimes there is no beach at all, it is also quite rocky. But the pool is great and you are near enough other beaches that this really doesn't matter. Plenty still go swimming and snorkelling straight from the hotel.

The other downside is the accessibility of reception. I just feel this is ill thought out for people who cannot climb stairs.

So what's the cost? This is the best part, Hideout Koh Kood is extremely reasonable in its pricing. I paid £180 per night for a Deluxe Pool Villa with breakfast, and £140 per night for the Sea View Villa (without pool). The step up to the pool villas is quite noticeable in terms of size and obviously having your own pool, so I would highly recommend spending the extra money for one of these.

Towering palm trees sway against a clear blue sky, creating a tropical paradise atmosphere. The lush greenery, sandy pathways, and inviting seating areas enhance the serene, nature-inspired retreat

In the low season (May-October), prices start at just £70 for the standard villas, in high season they start at £104 per night.

In high season the Beachfront Private Pool Villa costs between £200-£250 a night, a worthy investment if you ask me. It is cheaper than other resorts with private pools such as High Season, and far far cheaper than Soneva Kiri which is thousands.

A Beachfront Villa without pool in January 2025 costs around £150, and if you want a pool villa without splurging much, the Deluxe Pool Villa is £200 a night. All rates include breakfast.
