  • Ohhh its a glorious day today, trust me when I say nothing beats a sunny day in England, not even a deserted island in the Pacific Ocean (ok maybe it comes close). . Everyone is in a good mood, the birds chirp, the flowers bloom, parks are full of families playing and friends having picnics, the pub gardens are bustling with life, everyone is out with their dogs, and it’s just a lovely place to be ♥️ . When we get a bit of sunshine it's only natural that it should change our whole outlook on life: tops come off, music blares and we get lairy at 4pm after a few pints in the sun. We have just endured 6 months of bleak, grey days and we all know the lovely weather we are getting now will be long gone in a few days, we have to take it whilst we can. . So, a bit of weather bingo. How easy is it to cross off all the things below in the space of one sunny bank holiday weekend? . - Everyone you meet will first talk about how sunny it is 🌞 - Day drinking everywhere 🍹 - You will spot a number of men with their shirts off and beer bellies proudly on display 🍻 - By Monday people will be complaining it’s too hot 🥵 - You will spot some poor kid who’s just dropped his 99 Flake ice cream on the floor, and his poor mother angry over the fact they no longer cost 99p 🍦 - The scent of BBQs will fill the air of any residential street 🍗 - There will not be an inch of spare space on Brighton Beach 🏖 - Socks and sandals 🧦 - Very patchy sunburn 🤕 - Hay fever, who has started sneezing already? 🐝🌷 .   • My feed was looking a little brown and I woke up in a good mood (Alex and I are off to see Baxter again tonight) so I thought I would share a photo of my favourite flowers and place in the world. Unfortunately it seems as though our holidays in Brittany will be coming to an end soon as the house we stay in is being sold. I just don’t think it would be the same not going as a family and not staying in that house, I guess I’ll have to try out a hotel there and see, but I’m not convinced. As soon as we get Baxter we are going to apply for a pet passport in the hope we can come out here in August with my sister and her family, so fingers crossed! I wouldn’t ever take Baxter on a plane, I once read some horror stories on that. When going to France we drive there and get the ferry which I think would be much kinder on him 🙏🏼 . I tried to convince Alex last night we should quit life, but a van, renovate it and travel round Europe with Baxter 🐶 imagine taking him to the Alps, to the lakes, all amazing places where he could run around and be freeee! He might even have a holiday romance and learn how to bark in different languages, he would be full of travels and when we get back to England it would give him something to talk about with his fellow furry friends . It’s sunny in England this weekend, the sun gods have really turned out for the bank holiday weekend tbh. What a perfect time to explore! . Who has Easter plans? Who got to have a lie in this morning? Who is planning on stuffing themselves with Easter eggs? Alex and I have already polished off a few eggs, but it’s all good, if you can’t overeat chocolate at Easter, when can you? (Ok maybe Christmas too) . 🐣🐥🌸🐥🐣🌷🐣🐥🌸🐥🐣
  • Been stuck on the same level of Candy Crush for ages, the date on my iPad is showing as 11th June because I am too impatient to wait for my lives to replenish naturally. Maybe if I read through some of these books I will find the answer on how to get passed this bloomin’ level 📚🤓*** . In all seriousness, the world needs to start appreciating book shops more because if you think the jungle or the beach is the epitome of tranquility then that means you’ve not been into the right book shop. This one for example has Beauty and the Beast -esque ladders AND free tea and coffee for all. I also saw about 75 books I wanted to read then I remembered it was a shop and not a library. . I’ve also learnt they have a branch of this store (Topping & Company) in Ely, Cambridgeshire, and I’ve been telling myself for two years I have to get up to Ely and still haven’t so this may just be the kick up the bum I so needed... . ***PS just passed said level on Candy Crush 🥳🥳🥳
  • Why are flowers so eye catching? Because if they blended in with their surroundings, insects and birds wouldn’t have a look and steal its nectar. The birds and insects use this nectar to pollinate the plants and give us more plants (and often food!), the apples don’t magically appear 🧙🏻‍♀️ . Did you know the earliest magnolia family flowers have been around over 95 million years? That’s pretty ancient. To put it into perspective, this was after the dinosaurs roamed 🦕 but was during the period that the supercontinent ‘Pangea’ began to break up into individual continents. Back then the Earth was actually hotter than today, this surprised me. . I’m slightly obsessed with plate tectonics, it’s nuts to think Madagascar, located in such a hot part of earth used to be attached to Antarctica! It was also attached to India... these then split up 90 million years ago as India moved northwards by 15cm a year - this was a plate tectonic record! New Zealand started splitting from Australia too, that makes more sense to me... . Australia split from Antarctica 40 million years after India and is now moving towards Eastern Asia. Who knows, I’m another 40 million years they could collide! Antarctica hasn’t really moved much at all it has always been in the South Pole. . The Himalayas were created 35 million years ago when India finally collided with Asia, this collision is still happening today which is why earthquakes in this region are common. It also means the mountains are getting taller each year too 🏔 . I’m not sure why I told you all that, it definitely wasn’t the planned narrative for this photo... but there ya go!
  • I always felt like my obsession with buildings and architecture was a little odd, like it was ok in my Instagram bubble but I wouldn’t ever mention it outside of that. Yesterday’s sad events in Paris reminded me why buildings mean so much to people and why they mean so much to me. . Buildings contain memories, they contain history, they contain years of events. Humans come and go, buildings stand for multiple lifetimes as a way of showing us how times have changed. Paris and London are similar in the way you can walk down a street 400 years old and into a street that is lined with buildings built in the last 5 years. The different layers within a city teach us about the different eras and those who lives before us. . Did you know architecture can affect the way we feel? I can only imagine how the people of Europe felt watching the great monuments being built, Notre Dame, Tower Bridge, the Colosseum to name just a few. Whilst new architectural creations are constructed every day, I don’t remember any building in my life time wowing me, just those built long before I was born. It’s mad to me architects would put their heart and soul into designing a building for it to be built over 200 years, continuing long after they have passed.... Yesterday I felt compelled to watch the news in regards to Notre Dame, I couldn’t believe that almost 1000 years of history was being destroyed. That building is older than many countries, including Australia and the US as ‘nations’. I hope to see it rebuilt to its former glory 🙏🏼 I also hope to one day seeing new masterpieces like this pop up across the world 🌎
  • The magnolia is sparse but that’s okay because we are heading into wisteria season. I never took notice of flowers until I started this Instagram account, I am so much more aware of my surroundings now, I would have walked right by these houses before and not looked up.... the wisteria isn’t in full bloom yet but I could see it trying to break out in Richmond last week. However, turned the corner and found this gem, the position of the sun was not playing ball though 🌞 . The people living in Richmond (south-west London) are supposedly the healthiest and the wealthiest. Well I can’t really argue with that... I went to uni just down the road from Richmond and I always loved getting the bus here and always dreamt about living here one day. . Richmond’s first train station opened in 1846 and affluent buyers began moving to the area as an antidote to the crowds of central London, creating micro country estates surrounded by new streets of period houses. Today those houses are bought by commuters who can get to Waterloo in a brisk 18 minutes. There must be a downside you cry! Well yes, if you don’t like aeroplanes then I wouldn’t recommend living here anytime soon because the town is situated right under the Heathrow flight path, the busiest flight path in Europe and one of the busiest in the world. . I have a love hate relationship with the planes.... when it’s between the hours of 8am-10pm I love looking at planes, however when I was living in Hounslow (pretty much bordering Heathrow Airport) I would be woken every day without fail at around 5am by huge planes flying in from long haul destinations. These planes would be so low over the house and my bedroom was in the attic, the entire house would vibrate and I often woke up thinking I actually lived on the runway.... On average there are around 650 arrivals into Heathrow each day with planes arriving into Heathrow from 04:30am ✈️
  • Big shoutout to all the expectant mums out there, I don’t know how you can patiently wait 9 months for your sprog because I am on the edge of my seat constantly waiting for our puppy. 5 more weeks to go and we are counting down every second 😭 . Yesterday we went shopping for Baxter and I’ve decided he is the most spoilt dog ever and he doesn’t even really know we will be his parents yet 🙈🙈 his bed is all set up next to our sofa with his toys waiting on it, I have never seen Alex so willing to spend money, and past night we did the worst thing we could have ever done... we watched Marley and Me. . Who even thought Marley and Me is a good idea for a film? Are they trying to send us all into a depressive state? Half way in I’m crying, then by the end Alex and I are full on sobbing. That film really gets me in the feels and I am genuinely concerned for the mental state of anyone who doesn’t cry! . I’ll never forget the first time I saw that film... I went to the cinema with my sister and it was 3 months before our own gorgeous spaniel Tommy passed away. I’ll never forget saying bye to him, we all spent his last night fussing him and giving him all the cuddles we possibly could, he couldn’t walk anymore that day and had to be carried everywhere so we knew we couldn’t put him through pain anymore 😢😢😢 How do you find the words to say goodbye to someone that was in your life since you were 4? Not even possible, I still miss him every day and it’s been almost 10 years 💔💔💔 . PS. only thing cheering me up today is an Ariana Grande playlist and the thought of lunch. . Happy Sunday, may your day be full of food, cuddles, and not sad films 🎥
  • Yesterday Alex and I did something rather exciting... we picked a dog! I won’t say too much other than we have named him Baxter, he’s a black working cocker spaniel, we are in love with him and we pick him up in May 🐶 I will finally have a little companion when I go on my photo walks! . We originally wanted to adopt a 5 year old golden cocker we had our heart set on, turns out we couldn’t adopt her because we had to have had another dog at home 😢 it seemed that way with a lot of dogs available for adoption! There was another dog we wanted to adopt, called Leo, he was 9 months old and his owners were selling him 😭 but when we tried to see the dog the owner was extremely shady and quite aggressive! I couldn’t stop thinking of Leo for months after and I still wonder how he is doing 🙏🏼 I’m hoping once we have had Baxter for a couple of years we will find it easier to be able to adopt a brother or sister for him! . Well, we are super excited for Baxter, we want to buy him a red neckerchief with his name on. Oh and I will be making an Instagram just for him 🤣🤣 but not until we get him properly. I don’t know how we will spend the next 6 weeks waiting for him. We got to meet Baxter’s mum, Molly, and I feel very grateful for her! She was super lovely and gave Alex and I lots of snuggles so I feel like she was giving us her blessing ✨ . Does anyone here have a cocker spaniel? We opted for a working cocker rather than a show cocker! I grew up with a springer spaniel but cockers I know are different! Any advice accepted! 🐶♥️🐶♥️🐶
  • [#ad] Another day another place. Absolutely love Bath as I am sure you have figured out before, I just wish I lived closer (trust me, I have tried convincing Alex!) . It took just 1 hour 24 minutes to get here from London Paddington on the new @gwruk Intercity Express Train, I got to sit back and enjoy my pastry on the train without having to worry about navigating the UK's very congested motorways to get there. . @Kellyprincewright and I hit the city hard, walking over 20,000 steps (in heeled boots too, ouch), it was an absolutely gorgeous spring day. The sun was shining, the blossom was out, I even saw a few leaves on the trees! We walked around the city centre, then up to Alexandra Park (behind the train station and over the road) where you can get stunning views over the city, we ate good food, tried going up the abbey... turns out it takes an hour to do that and we missed the tour so I guess I need to add that to the list for next time, then we walked up to the Circus to dream about one day owning a house like this. . The houses of Bath were built in a typically Georgian style and the city is one of the most well preserved Georgian cities in the world, the houses are still standing strong over 200 years later. 7,000 houses were built during Bath's heyday, from 1714 to 1830, and more than 5,000 remain, most of which are now protected. . John Wood the elder was an 18th-century legend, born as the son of a lowly builder, he went to London to teach himself architecture, he came back to Bath where he created some of the most well-known buildings in the city, including this place, the Circus! . I hope one day you can all see Bath for yourself, this city has to be seen to be believed, it is more gorgeous than a picture could ever portray . #GWRAdventures
