Finding the best ice rinks in New York City!
No one could ever argue the magic of Christmas in New York City. Glittering lights adorn department stores, whilst the streets are abuzz with shoppers and tourists alike. The iconic Rockefeller Christmas Tree is dressed to the nines, with happy skaters dancing below it.
But the Rockefeller ice rink is not the only place to skate in the city. New York offers fun ice skating opportunities no matter where you go.
Wollman Rink, Central Park
Open: 26 October 2024 to 12 March 2025
A quintessential New York experience filled with winter charm and the city's skyline as a backdrop, ice skating in Central Park is not one to be missed.
Feeling like a timeless escape, the ice rink, known as the Wollman Rink, is the largest in Manhattan, carrying the essence of Christmas, especially on a cold winter’s day.
There are cosy rink-side igloos with electric fireplaces and comfy seating for eight, with delicious food and beverage options.
There is no extra charge to use the igloos, but they available on a first-come, first-served basis for visitors purchasing food from the cafe.
Prices start at $26 per adult and $10 per child or senior.

Bryant Park
Open 25 October to 2 March 2025
One of my favourites, Bryant Park ice rink, surrounded by a cosy winter village and backed by Manhattan’s towering skyscrapers.
This is one to do in the evening when the park comes alive with the city lit up in the background.
Another reason to visit Bryant Park ice rink is the festive food! The park is filled with food stalls and artisanal stands. No one will leave here hungry... or sad!
Ice skating admission in Bryant Park is free, with skate rentals starting from $18. If you want to store your bag whilst you skate, there is a $5 fee.
This is a popular one, so be sure to book in advance!
The Lodge is the perfect place to relax and watch the skating with a festive cocktail in hand or some food to warm the belly.
The Rink at Rockefeller Center
Open: 12 October 2024 to March 2025
Skating at the Rockefeller Center Rink is a timeless New York City tradition that I wish everyone could enjoy at least once. Sitting underneath the world-famous Rockefeller Christmas Tree, skating here feels like being in a classic movie.
Surrounded by the buzz of the city but wrapped in the warmth of the holiday spirit, the Rink at the Rockefeller is a very romantic affair.
Being one of the most popular ice skating rinks in New York, I advise booking tickets in advance, especially in December. Adult and child tickets both start at $11 and climb up to $79.
The Rink's history began in 1936 and was built to bring visitors to the Rockefeller Centre. In 1939, it was decided the rink would become an annual tradition and has gradually become one of the most city's recognisable landmarks.
Peak season runs from Thanksgiving until the New Year so booking tickets in advance is a must. The rink remains open until March, you can book your tickets here.
